Scalone Monumentale with a piccione (peech-ee-oh-nay)
Today Ricardo took us to the Villa Borghese, which is apparently the most important collection in Rome, and has been since the 17th century. There were several Bernini statues, a room of Caravaggio paintings, and The Deposition by Raphael. I couldn't take pictures there either unfortunately.
Then Nathan and I went to the National Gallery because we really wanted to see some modern art, making it the longest museum day to date. The National Gallery was fantastic (even though it was nearly empty of people, which was weird after being in lots of overcrowded museums), and my favorites were the Van Gogh pieces, the Klimt piece, and Balla (who I had never heard of but who was a 'futuriste' in addition to an impressive range of styles). As Nathan said, after seeing art where an unnaturally long neck was considered shocking, these pieces seemed outrageously radical.
Hannah the greyhounds of Italy series is a failure because I can't take pictures in the museums o:

Nice post, Ellen!
ReplyDeleteI have a Breeze story to share.
On the Fourth, Mom, Philip, Breeze and I walked on the beach from Jane & Craig's to Kingston. It was a very low tide, so the sand spit was out. Philip took Breeze out on the spit. Part of the spit was completely surrounded by water. Philip asked if he could take Breeze's leash off because she was on an island of sand. I, standing on the mainland, said yes. Breeze immediately left the island and bounded through the water to me. She got completely wet, which she doesn't care for. You should have seen the look on her face!
